Hi! It's been awhile. I've been so busy, mostly in a good way. Wedding planning is in full effect around here, and I've had no time left over for blogging. I wish I had time to tell you all about it.
Please don't fret. Early in the morning, while all the wedding planning fairies we're still nestled snug in their tiny fairy beds, I have secretly been coming up with the makings of a new blog. One that will dazzle and delight you.
coming fall 2008
If only wedding planning fairies really did exist.
Procrastinating:
Blogging.
There is a certain span of time [especially when an unexplainable absence has occurred] in which it becomes almost painful to write a blog post about everyday activities. Summarizing over a months worth of potential blog post material [which I gathered but never acted on] wouldn't do said material justice. With that in mind, I decided to use not martha's 'up to' posts as inspiration. Hopefully it will kick start my blogging again.
Mastering:
Cake Decorating.
At the end of January, I completed Wilton's Course 3 by creating a stacked, fondant covered cake with 38 fondant roses [all handmade by yours truly] and butter cream accents.
Sipping:
Teas' Tea.
I simply love tea. Teas' Tea is great because it's high in antioxidants while unsweetened and calorie-free. It's all natural a brewed with premium loose tea leaves. My favorites are Pure Green and Green White.
Listening:
Juno.
I saw Juno on Christmas Day solely for the music. The soundtrack has been pumping through my headphones since the moment I got the CD [and uploaded it to my iTunes]. I love love love Kimya Dawson and adore her part in the Juno soundtrack.
Buying:
Polaroid Film.
I finally thrifted a decent Polaroid Instant Camera a few months back only to find out from a Washington Post article that "Polaroid is dropping the technology it pioneered long before digital photography rendered instant film obsolete to all but a few nostalgia buffs." I've been buying Polaroid Instant film every chance I see it. Perhaps I'm just one of the 'few nostalgia buffs' but I love Polaroids. Not to mention, Joe and I are planning on having a Polaroid guest 'book' at our wedding.
Visiting:
Virginia Beach.
Joe and I are planning to get married in Virginia Beach. Lately, that's what our visits have been centered around. I don't know if I've made it [in any way] obvious or clear but Joe and I have been having a hell of a time figuring out and deciding on the major details of our wedding. Potential dates, locations and 'themes' have been haunting us [mostly me]. I am details oriented and tend to plan every detail to any event idea we come up with. The problem is that the first few [ten plus] date and location ideas we went through didn't pan out.
On Sunday, Joe and I [together with our parents] stumbled into Lesner Inn Catering Club after a casual lunch at Bubba's. We were lucky enough to get a detailed tour of the facilities. We loved the view of Lynnhaven Inlet from the Waterside Deck and requested information on open dates in June and July. Next weekend, on our Virginia Beach visit, we will get the date and location written in stone [finally].
Designing:
Wedding Website.
With Joe being a talented programmer/web developer, I thought it would only be fitting for us to create our own wedding website. We bought a simple and [somewhat catchy] domain name last week and I can't wait to get started. On this project, I will design the layout and look of the site while also handling all photos and graphics. I [basically] get to play with Photoshop the whole time. Fun times!
Needing/Wanting:
iPhone.
I need a new phone stat! My current [Verizon] phone plan ends this month [sometime]. I've been using one of the free phones they offer with the purchase of a new plan for 2 years now. It is no longer reliable to consitantly hold charge, stay on, or function under regular [even light] phone usage conditions. On top of that, I only have a car charger and I don't own a car.
I want want want an iPhone. Although I've never been a phone person and always seem to be at a loss for words, I feel as though I somehow deserve the technology iPhone offers. I keep imagining how much easier life [keeping in touch, planning a wedding, and other shananagains] would be if I had a reliable phone with internet and email access available at the swoooosh of a finger.
Celebrating:
Losing 25 lbs.
With visions of wedding dresses dancing in my head, I've managed to lose 25 pounds since Thanksgiving. Yay! *doing the cabbage patch*
This past weekend, Joe and I visited Massanutten for a family get together and Joe's birthday. We had a great time! After getting home, I got cracking on my first cake for Wilton's Course 3 class. After a month long [forced] break from Wilton classes, I was ready to learn about rolled fondant and tiered cakes. This week I created a 'Fondant Package Cake'. I would consider my first experience with fondant a complete success!
I love corduroy! In the last few weeks, I have noticed corduroy popping up everywhere. Yesterday, I discovered that I now fit into a pair of corduroy pants I stashed in the back of my closet after I 'outgrew' them. I have steadily gained 10+ pounds every year for the past 5 years. After many failed attempts at settling into a healthy lifestyle, getting engaged to my best friend seemed to kick me into gear. Since Thanksgiving [engagement day], I have lost 13 pounds and counting. Yay! With that said, I love corduroy [pants]!
For the holidays, Joe's parents gave Joe and I a chair and ottoman [that we requested] from Home Reserve. Home Reserve offers low priced, ready to assemble furniture with hidden built-in storage spaces and washable/replaceable fabric covers. I choose their [destiny mink] corduroy fabric cover, of course. The 'tuxedo' chair and ottoman was easy to build [i did the chair by myself] and looks great in our apartment.
I spent birthday/holiday/fun money on the most awesome of awesome [to me] bags. Moop sells a 'Market Bag' that has 6 pockets on the inside and 2 d-rings for keys, phones, and pouches. It a big bag coming in at about 12" across the top, 13" deep, and 16" across the bottom. I bought the market bag in two shades of burnt red made from a midweight fine wale corduroy.
Recently featured on Offbeat Bride, Raina, Offbeat bride, along side her husband, Mike, spent less than $600 on a small wedding in a unique and personal setting. They choose to have the wedding in an old church turned library in the town Raina grew up in. I love seeing row after row of written wonders and the awesome aisle that naturally forms between the packed shelves. The following two photos are of Raina and Mike's wedding, courtesy of mike.turz Flickr.
