This past weekend, Joe and I visited Massanutten for a family get together and Joe's birthday. We had a great time! After getting home, I got cracking on my first cake for Wilton's Course 3 class. After a month long [forced] break from Wilton classes, I was ready to learn about rolled fondant and tiered cakes. This week I created a 'Fondant Package Cake'. I would consider my first experience with fondant a complete success!
I got a neat little package in the mail today. Just something I picked up over at One Good Bumblebee, called the 'Pile of Paper'. Although snail mail usually perks me right up, today has been just one of those days. It's been cloudy almost all day, every emotional point in whatever television show or movie I watch has gotten me choked up, and I received email confirmation that I didn't get a job I was counting on and perfect for. I won't let that get me down. Who ever said that there ain't no cure for the summertime blues, anyway? A quick trip up to Maryland on Friday for another poker tournament followed by a fun filled week with my family down in Virginia Beach will do the trick.
My life goals as of late...
- Get a degree in a subject I enjoy.
- Move to New Hampshire and buy a small cottage in a quiet neighborhood.
- Adopt a baby girl, or two.
- Spend the rest of my life baking, cooking, crafting and enjoying family.
For the last year or so, I have stood firm in my decision to remain childless. With the fear of having a big head 'Flynn' baby pushing it's way out of my body in combination with my feminist drive and nonconformist ways, I let my ideals and philosophy make my life decisions for me. I have continually been in a struggle with choosing between real life and my version of ideal. For years, I have been anxiously searching for a major or career path to follow that would lead me to a job that would make me feel satisfied and rewarded outside of the home. History teacher, social worker, restaurant manager, hotel manager, community health educator and more recently, librarian. The list of jobs I've researched, got overly excited about, discovered it's various pitfalls and then crossed off my list goes on.
My recent change of heart about children and caring for a family came from reading a favorite blog of mine, 'my happy little life'. Recently, she referred to an old post she wrote 'on blooming where your planted'. I've realized how much I enjoy taking care of Joe and our home. Also, I was born with a seemingly unnatural need to clean. I'm still very anxious to go back to college and learn as much as possible. I want to be prepared to build my family and make it stronger.
The idea for this post came from melisss, who also posted her life goals.
